The Infiniti Q50 is a popular used luxury sport sedan because it combines strong performance, comfortable seating and a long list of technology features. However, the Q50 was sold with several different engines, steering systems and infotainment configurations, so the problems an owner may encounter depend heavily on the model year and powertrain. A squeal, chirp or visible belt tracking problem should not be ignored. The belt drives important accessories, and a belt that continues to walk off a pulley can leave the vehicle disabled or damage nearby components.
Do not simply install another belt without checking why the previous belt failed. Pulley alignment, tensioner condition, bracket position and signs of contamination should be inspected. There is no single best year for every buyer. Early 3.7-liter cars appeal to owners who prefer a naturally aspirated engine, while later 3.0t models offer much stronger tuning potential. The best Q50 is usually the one with documented maintenance, minimal questionable modifications, matching tires, a clean diagnostic scan and a satisfactory inspection.
When shopping, verify the exact engine and trim from the VIN. Ask whether the car has been tuned, whether factory software has been restored, whether turbochargers or major electronics have been replaced and whether all recalls or warranty campaigns were completed. A well-maintained Q50 can be an enjoyable daily driver, but buying solely on appearance or advertised horsepower can lead to expensive surprises.
