Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Explained

An Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned vehicle can provide more protection than an ordinary used vehicle, but the program name alone does not explain the coverage. Buyers need to know which certification program applies, when the warranty begins and ends, what deductible is charged and which components are excluded.

Infiniti currently separates its main Certified Pre-Owned program from Certified Pre-Owned Select. The details below reflect Infiniti’s published U.S. program information available in July 2026 and should be verified again before purchase because eligibility and benefits can change.

What Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned Means

A vehicle must meet age, mileage and condition requirements established by Infiniti and pass the program’s inspection. Certification is performed through an authorized Infiniti retailer. It is not simply a label applied by any used-car dealer.

The buyer should request the completed inspection checklist, warranty booklet, vehicle-history report and written coverage dates. The certification paperwork should identify the exact program rather than using CPO as a generic marketing term.

Main Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned Program

Infiniti states that its main Certified Pre-Owned program is available on eligible Infiniti models up to five years or 60,000 miles from the original in-service date. The published benefits include a 167-point inspection and a zero-dollar deductible.

Infiniti also describes limited-warranty terms of up to six years or 75,000 miles, or six years with unlimited mileage, depending on eligibility. Because the term is tied to the original in-service date and vehicle category, the buyer must obtain the actual expiration date in writing.

Certified Pre-Owned Select

Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned Select is intended for older eligible Infiniti vehicles. Infiniti’s current program page describes eligibility up to ten model years or 100,000 miles, an 84-point inspection and a $100 deductible.

The Select program includes a twelve-month or 12,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, whichever occurs first, along with one oil change and tire rotation within the first year of ownership. It is not the same coverage as the main CPO program.

Maintenance and Rental Benefits

Infiniti lists one year of prepaid maintenance with the main CPO program. The Select program includes one oil change and tire rotation during the first year. The exact services and scheduling rules should be reviewed in the program documents.

Current program information also lists up to five days of rental reimbursement at a maximum of $50 per day for Infiniti CPO and CPO Select. Reimbursement generally depends on a covered repair and authorization, so buyers should not assume every service visit qualifies.

Inspection Does Not Make the Vehicle New

A 167-point or 84-point inspection is useful, but it does not eliminate normal wear or guarantee that every component will remain trouble-free. Tires, brakes, cosmetic damage and maintenance items may meet minimum standards without being new.

Inspect the vehicle independently when possible. Measure tires and brakes, test every electronic feature and review the completed checklist. Ask what was repaired during certification and which items were considered acceptable without replacement.

Understanding the Original In-Service Date

Warranty time commonly begins when the vehicle was first delivered, leased or placed into service, not when the CPO buyer purchases it. A vehicle advertised as having a six-year warranty may have significantly less time remaining if it is already several years old.

Ask the retailer to provide the original in-service date and calculate the exact coverage end date and mileage limit. If the warranty is described as unlimited mileage, confirm the time limit and covered components in the official booklet.

What May Not Be Covered

Limited warranties include exclusions. Maintenance, normal wear, damage, misuse, unauthorized modifications, environmental damage and certain cosmetic or electronic items may not be covered. The exact list belongs in the warranty booklet, not in a salesperson’s verbal summary.

A powertrain warranty is narrower than comprehensive coverage. It may focus on listed engine, transmission and driveline components. Buyers comparing CPO Select with the main program should pay close attention to this difference.

Remaining Factory Warranty Versus CPO Coverage

A newer certified vehicle may still have a portion of its original factory basic or powertrain warranty. Ask the retailer to show how the factory coverage and CPO limited warranty interact, including which coverage applies first and whether any gap exists.

The original factory warranty and CPO warranty may have different covered components, deductibles and exclusions. Keep both booklets and do not assume that certification restarts the full new-vehicle warranty period.

Vehicle History and Buyback Protection

Infiniti promotes a CARFAX vehicle-history report and a three-year CARFAX Buyback Guarantee with its CPO benefits. The guarantee has its own conditions and is not a promise to buy back a vehicle for every accident or mechanical problem.

Read the CARFAX terms and compare the report with physical inspection and service records. Not every repair, collision or maintenance visit is reported to a history database.

Modifications and Certification

Ask whether the vehicle has aftermarket engine, suspension, wheel or electronic modifications. A modification may not automatically cancel every benefit, but damage caused by unauthorized parts or calibration can be excluded. The retailer should identify which non-factory equipment was accepted during certification.

If the car has been returned to stock, request documentation of the original changes and any software restoration. Certification should not replace a careful review of modification history.

Questions to Ask Before Signing

Ask which program applies, what the deductible is, when coverage ends, whether the warranty transfers and where covered repairs may be performed. Request written confirmation of maintenance benefits, rental reimbursement and roadside assistance where applicable.

Also ask whether modifications affect coverage, whether any recalls remain open and whether the vehicle has remaining factory warranty. Keep copies of the inspection sheet, warranty booklet and purchase documents.

Final Thoughts

Infiniti CPO can add meaningful protection, particularly when the vehicle qualifies for the main program with a zero deductible and broader limited-warranty terms. CPO Select can provide a smaller safety net for older eligible vehicles, but its powertrain-focused coverage is more limited.

The program is most valuable when the buyer understands the actual dates, mileage, deductible and exclusions. Read the documents before purchase and do not rely on the word certified by itself.
